9 arrested in November 17 Assam gang-rape case

GUWAHATI: An accused in last month’s gang rape case in Guwahati was arrested from Dhubri district on Friday night. Krishna Barman (22), who had gone into hiding after the crime, was apprehended night after his location was tracked through technical surveillance.
Barman is the ninth person to be arrested in the case. Police said two of them were witnesses and not involved in the crime. “During interrogation, we found out that of the eight persons apprehended, two has just observed the incident and left without participating in the act,” said an officer. The crime took place on Nov 17 in the Boragaon area of Guwahati near a secluded spot, during the Raas festival. It came to light after a video went viral on Thursday, following which police swung into action. The accused took turns to rape the victim and filmed the act. They later circulated the clip.
