Congress forms ‘EAGLE’ panel to monitor free and fair elections

The move signals Congress’ intent to scrutinize the electoral process closely amid ongoing political tensions.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday announced the formation of an eight-member committee, the Empowered Action Group of Leaders and Experts (EAGLE), to oversee the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) handling of elections.
Focus on Maharashtra voter list allegations
The committee, comprising Ajay Maken, Digvijaya Singh, Abhishek Singhvi, Praveen Chakravarty, Pawan Khera, Gurdeep Singh Sappal, Nitin Raut, and Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy, will first investigate alleged voter list manipulation in Maharashtra and submit a report to the party leadership.

Monitoring past and upcoming elections
According to Congress general secretary K C Venugopal, EAGLE will also review past elections in other states and proactively monitor upcoming polls for potential electoral irregularities. The move signals Congress’ intent to scrutinize the electoral process closely amid ongoing political tensions.
