NEW DELHI: In a fiery speech during the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi dismissed the speech as a “laundry list” of government claims, stating that it was nearly identical to last year’s. Gandhi, who took repeated jabs at the Modi government, accused the ruling NDA of failing to tackle unemployment and criticized the “Make in India” initiative as a missed opportunity.
‘China is sitting inside India because of Make in India’s failure’
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi present in the House, Gandhi delivered sharp remarks, linking the government’s economic policies to national security concerns. “The reason China is sitting inside this country is because ‘Make in India’ has failed, and India is refusing to produce,” he said. He warned that India risks ceding another industrial revolution to China.
Foreign policy swipe: ‘Wouldn’t send minister to beg for invite’
Gandhi also took an indirect swipe at India’s diplomatic strategy, suggesting that a Congress-led government would not have sent its foreign minister to the US to “get our Prime Minister invited to the US President’s coronation.” His remark drew strong reactions from BJP leaders, with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju challenging him to back his claims with evidence.
Rising social tensions and the AI revolution
Beyond his political attacks, Gandhi spoke about India’s economic challenges, arguing that social tensions are on the rise and the country has failed to organize production efficiently. He also highlighted four key technologies—electric motors, batteries, optics, and artificial intelligence—that he believes will drive future innovation.
