Manoj Sinha: Cinemas in three more Kashmir towns: Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha | India News

SRINAGAR: Art is flourishing in “peaceful” Jammu and Kashmir whose “youths are enjoying music while nibbling at ice-cream on Jhelum’s banks”, lieutenant-governor Manoj Sinha said Tuesday, promising cinema halls in three more towns this September.
Ganderbal, Bandipora and Kulgam will join Pulwama, Shopian, Baramulla and Handwara on the list of centres where theatres were started or reopened in recent months after terrorism blacked out cinemas in the past three decades and nipped the state’s famous movie-going culture.
“Artists suffered a lot during the pandemic. Now, I am happy to see the artists coming from other parts of the country to Kashmir to showcase their fare and to learn new forms as well,” Sinha told a youth event in Srinagar before announcing theatres in the three towns.
In Srinagar, a cinema is already open. The LG said peace was imperative for development and promotion of art. “Nothing can happen without peace. Today, one can see youth enjoying ice-cream at the Jhelum river front and enjoying music. Art knows no boundaries and can soothe nerves. I am happy to see art flourishing on all fronts in Kashmir,” Sinha said.
