Mysuru-Darbhanga Express Express train was travelling at 75km/h when it collided with goods train: What we know so far

Mysore to Darbhanga Bhagmati Express on Friday collided with a stationary goods train near Kavaraipettai railway station in Tamil Nadu. Few coaches were derailed, and a fire broke out in coaches of the express train.
Rescue operations by local authorities are currently underway. Further details regarding the extent of the damage and casualties are still awaited.
This is what we know so far:

  • In total 12-13 coaches have derailed
  • Rescue teams and ambulances are en route to the scene
  • Railway spokesperson said there is no casualty or grievous injury in the Chennai train collission
  • Some injuries have been reported and all of them have been moved to nearby hospitals
  • After passing the Ponneri signal, the train collided with a goods train
  • The impact caused a severe jolt, resulting in the derailment
  • The train was reportedly traveling at approximately 75 km/h before switching tracks, which may have contributed to the crash
  • Train operations in both directions have been halted after the mishap. Routes of 8 trains have been diverted
  • With the help of fire brigades the fire has been doused in the parcel van, railways
  • Manager and top officials are at site and most of the passengers have been rescued, either released or moved to hospitals as needed
  • Alternative arrangements ate being made to transport, accommodate & feed passengers
