The constituency is reserved under the ST category and consist of seven assembly seats which are Talsara(ST), Sundargarh (ST), Biramitrapur (ST), Raghunathpali (SC), Rourkela, Rajgangapur (ST), Bonai (ST).The literacy rate of the constituency is 64.12%.
In 2019, BJP candidate Jual Oram won the 2019 General Election with a victory margin of 2,23,065 votes, securing 5,00,056 votes. Jual Oram defeated Sunita Biswal of the BJD, who got 2,76,991 votes. The constituency witnessed a significant voter turnout of 71.53% in 2019.
The date of voting for the Sundargarh constituency of Odisha is May 20 (Phase 5) and the result will be announced on June 04.
BJP has fielded Jual Oram for the upcoming elections from this seat while Congress has fielded Janardan Dehury. BJD has given ticket to Dilip Tirkey from this constituency.
